About us

Újirány Group – Office for Architecture, Landscape architecture, Form, Media
(UIArchitects-UILandscape Architects, UIForm, UIMedia)

„Development in the scenes of technology, science, economy and media constantly result changes in the demands of society. The cue of time is revaluated in the process of spatial design, as flexible concepts are needed to be set up to reflect on these changing demands. The role of concepts becomes more and more essential, legalizing the given plan. Our concepts are points determined by the coordinates of time and space, which create new meanings and value, meanwhile becoming newstarting points of new design processes, to assure continuity. Mapping these points in a system of coordinates the concepts are starting points from which the inspired plans draw up the direction of the vectors. These create the new directions within the system.”
Új Irány csoport 2002

Újirány Group is an office founded by young architects and landscape architects in 2001, working on interdisciplinary projects, in the form of design groups. The discussion based working method allows a strong concept based design in all projects. Projects range on a large scale: urban design, interior design, exhibition design, and public art. All the works connect to the city in one way or another and the people using it, which is the starting-point in all cases of urban regeneration and design process.
Újirány Group was founded in 2000, on the occasion of winning the design for the Millenary Park. The name of the group indicates the aim to reflect on new urban challenges drawn up by the ever changing world around us upon the knowledge of contemporary theories, drawing up new directions and possibilities of development. The founders of the office are young architects and landscape architects: Czinki Dorottya, Kovács Árpád, Lendvai Gábor, Muszbek Johanna, Pozsár Péter, Szohr Gábor és Tihanyi Dominika. The group structure is an open and gradually changing one, making it possible for other young professionals - sharing similar thoughts and principles - to join the collaboration. By 2008 this lead to the formation of a complex team structure, with new members joining the team. Újirány Group now is divided into four counterparts, each in strong collaboration with the other. The divisions are UIArchitects (Johanna Muszbek, Péter Pozsár), UILandscape Architects (Árpád Kovács, Katalin Lukács, Gábor Szohr, Dominika Tihanyi) and the newly formed UIForm (Edit Szabó), and UIMedia (Gábor Lendvai, András Nagy). The open structure of the working method allows the people to work on interdisciplinary projects, in the form of design groups, integrating the different professions and ways of thinking. The discussion based working method allows a strong concept based design in all projects. Projects range on a large scale: garden design, urban rehabilitation and design (Etele square), interior design, exhibition design (Modern and Organic: London-RIBA, Glasgow-The Lighthouse), architectural design (Hotel Clark), urban regeneration projects (Kazinczy utca, Corvin-Szigony Project), art based reasearch work (The Noise Barrier Wall Project, The Faulheit Project), and public art works (Budapest Plage ’03, „You are Here!”-The Atlantis Project). All the works connect to the city in one way or another, and the people using it, which is the starting point in all cases of urban regeneration and design process - setting up an organic structure that connects the different scales of design.
